GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is a medical humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Provide technical advice in management and implementation of its climate and environmental health activities both in the head quarter offices and field operations. The incumbent will provide updated and well researched advise that captures the emerging trends in response to the climate crisis and ensure that these interventions are aligned to the rest of the MSF movement. To this end, the successful candidate will be part of or work closely with the different technical platforms both internally within OCBA and externally with other entities with the MSF movement.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide the Technical Leadership for OCBA field and technical teams on implementation of our climate and environmental health ambitions.
- From a technical perspective ensure solid dynamics and synergies with the other MSF sections, entities and with current and emerging stakeholders.
- Working closely with the CFP, Provide Technical advice to the Operations department in adding the climate and environment health ‘lens’ to our operations promoting business case studies and other tools to facilitate decision making together with other technical referents.
- Technically ensuring the annual revision of our Carbon footprint baseline calculation ensuring a synergetic relationship with other technical leads in the movement including the IO carbon accounting team.
- Working with other technical leads within the MSF movement and linking with other information sources among other like-minded organisation, source and disseminate needed Knowledge in OCBA regarding its response to the climate crisis.
- Provide technical Support to OCBA’s ‘Green Teams.
- Actively participate in all OCBA climate and environmental work streams in OCBA as part of the decision-making teams in ensuring coherent and realistic climate response.
- Participate in developing protocols, systems and metrics for the implementation of the OCBA response to the climate crisis.
- Participate in both routine and ad hoc reporting on climate response
- Develop data collection and management systems anchoring on exiting and upcoming tools
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (for example environmental engineering) or 5 years of experience in related field of Climate-Environment (it replaces university degree) is an added value.
- Experience working in the field for MSF or a humanitarian organization (in any position) is a strong asset, as a deep understanding of our operational reality is critical to affecting change.
- Experience leading to an organization through decarbonization or any climate change related process is required.
- Previous experience with MSF is an asset.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the climate change stakes for the humanitarian sector
- Capacity to develop and implement a strategic vision and roadmap in support to diverse departments
- Project cycle (design, implementation, communication, monitoring, supervision, reporting ...)
- Pedagogy, training, social communication
- Community needs assessment, capable of managing discussion groups and conducting workshops
- Ability to support teams remotely and apply remote training methods
- English and French are mandatory .Arabic, Spanish & Portuguese at any level is an asset.
CONDITIONS
- Position based in any MSF OCBA Hub (Barcelona, MSF-Spain office delegations, Amman, Bogota, Dakar or Nairobi). Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (residency, work permit, etc.).

- Duration: permanent contract with a minimum commitment of 3 years.
- Annual gross salary: HQ 4A level + secondary benefits based on MSF OCBA Reward Policy. Subjected to local conditions.
- Starting date: Mid-February 2025.
