GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization, that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters. MSF offers assistance to people based only on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.

The MSF movement is built around five operational directorates supported by 24 sections and offices worldwide. MSF OCBA is one of those directorates. MSF Portugal is one of the MSF offices spread across Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Europe, bringing together expertise, financial resources and personnel for field projects.

 

JOB GENERAL OBJECTIVE AND CONTEXT
MSF Portugal communication activities aim to develop the quality, reliability and impact of MSF engagement with its audiences – in Portugal, and in the world with a special focus on Portuguese-speaking countries. The Communications Officer contributes to the alignment of MSF language and external communication with diverse audiences to give visibility to the crises in which the medical humanitarian organization works and brings innovation to MSF Portugal editorial approach and content diversity aiming to enhance engagement with audiences.

 

Reporting to the Head of Communications of MSF Portugal, this position is responsible for producing, adapting and implementing written and audiovisual content about MSF’s public communication, activities, events and initiatives in the online and media spheres in order to promote the profile of MSF and raise awareness of MSF humanitarian work.

 

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the communication lines of MSF Portugal to refine and enhance integrated communication strategies and ensure its effectiveness in the media and online, in line with the editorial guidelines and brand book of communication of MSF Portugal and MSF global movement.
  • Support the definition and implementation of communication strategies with the Portuguese media, contributing to raising awareness and visibility of humanitarian crises and MSF work.
  • Write, translate and adapt written content for social media platforms and website, ensuring the accuracy of information and the correct use of MSF language guidelines and DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) principles.
  • Curate and ensure the correct use of images, both photographic and in video, upholding MSF commitment to DEI principles.
  • Support on copywriting for online campaigns and adaptation of other communication materials such as video, photography and infographics.
  • Support the development of digital projects, especially in content and graphic interface for applications, thematic sites, digital campaigns, etc.
  • Support planning and promotion of MSF Portugal events and direct engagement with the Portuguese civil society.
  • Participate in measurement of indicators and reporting to optimize audience performance across online and offline channels.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Degree in Communication Sciences (Journalism, Communication, Advertising and/or Public Relations) and a minimum of two years of work experience in the relevant areas/sectors.
  • Clear sense of commitment to MSF values, principles and objectives.
  • Previous experience in the humanitarian sector is a strong asset.
  • Experience in international organizations/entities.
  • Excellent Portuguese writing and speaking skills.
  • Proficiency in English (essential) and Spanish (desirable).
  • Experience in translation and content adaptation.
  • Storytelling skills are a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of web publishing and social media.
  • Experience in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Preferably with experience in photo and video editing.

 

CONDITIONS

  • Position based in Lisbon, Portugal.
  • Contract duration: indefinite (candidates must meet legal conditions to be immediately hired in Portugal).
  • Full-time job.
  • Annual Gross Salary: level HQ-2B – 27 758€ (divided in 12 monthly payments) + secondary benefits based on MSF OCBA Reward Policy. Subjected to local conditions.
  • Starting date: June 2023.
