MAIN PURPOSE
The purpose of the role is to advise and support the implementation of digital communication strategies tailored to MSF-OCBA field operations to enhance outreach, engagement, crisis response, monitoring and digital capacity across missions.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Digital Advisor for Operational Communications plays a key role in strengthening MSF-OCBA’s digital presence and engagement in contexts where we operate. This includes supporting the development of strategies, training staff, monitoring digital environments, and supporting crisis management, including travelling to the country if needed. The role bridges operational communications and digital expertise, ensuring alignment with MSF’s social mission and operational needs. It involves close collaboration with country teams, concerned Comms Advisors , and other MSF stakeholders (ILD, IDEU, FCLU, regional hubs and partner sections). It is also OCBA’s ops comms representative to the Digital Working Group and other relevant platforms.
TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and support digital communication strategies for operational contexts to strengthen outreach, engagement, and organizational visibility.
- Advise and guide country communication teams on production, formats and adaptation of messages to different and tools, content formats, and performance measurement to maximize communication impact.
- Assess and monitor digital environments, emerging trends, and audience behaviors to inform strategic decision-making and enhance digital communication practices.
- Provides guidance to dissemination approaches, including paid promotion and channel management, to effectively reach target audiences in operational countries.
- Lead and coordinate digital monitoring and digital crisis communication responses to mitigate reputational risks, misinformation, harmful narratives, and operational impacts.
- Develop and deliver training, coaching, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that strengthen digital communication capabilities across headquarters and field teams.
- Promote and ensure application of organizational digital communication standards, guidelines, and social media protocols across operational settings.
- Represent and collaborate with internal and international digital communication networks, working groups, and stakeholders to foster alignment, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
ROLE´S SPECIFIC ELEMENTS
- Ensures a strategic operational communications vision behind digital activities at country level and supports the country comms team, including travelling to the capital/projects if needed.
- Act as OCBA focal point in relevant digital platforms such as Digital Working Group and Digital Advisors group.
- Supports transversal collaboration and integration of digital tools and skills.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Master’s degree in Communications, Digital Media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in digital communications, social media strategy and community management.
- At least 1 year of professional experience in the humanitarian sector.
- Advanced/proficient command of English (written and spoken) is required. French, Spanish and/or Arabic will be considered assets.
- Strong knowledge of digital tools, social media platforms, SEO & GEO, digital marketing and crisis communication.
- Good command of Microsoft Office 365 and basic knowledge of AI tools.
- Strong strategic vision, analytical thinking, initiative and innovation, with the ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to changing environments.
CONDITIONS
- Position based in one of the following MSF-OCBA Hubs: Bogotá, Dakar, Nairobi, Barcelona, Bilbao, Sevilla or Madrid.
- Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (e.g., residency, work permit, etc.).
- For level HQ-3B positions and if the role is based in one of our offices in Spain, the salary will be at €41.137,24. If the role is finally located at one of the OCBA regional hubs, compensation will be subject to the local pay scale applicable to that hub.

- Contract duration: Permanent contract.
- Starting date: 15th December 2026.
