GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian action-driven organization, which offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. The MSF movement is built around six operational directorates supported by MSF’s 21 sections, 24 associations and other offices together worldwide.
MAIN PURPOSE
The purpose of the role is to develop and implement digital engagement strategies through email marketing and marketing automation in order to enhance supporter journeys, increase engagement, and optimize fundraising outcomes.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Digital Officer plays a key role in the Fundraising department by managing email marketing campaigns and automated digital journeys. This includes designing, implementing, and optimizing communications for the different Programs (mass, mid, bequestors, leads…) using Salesforce Marketing Cloud. The role supports strategic goals related to donor acquisition, retention, and reactivation, and involves collaboration with multiple internal teams and external partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN TASKS
Email Marketing Campaigns

Design and implement targeted email campaigns for various supporter segments to enhance engagement and achieve the fundraising outcomes defined by the programs managers.

Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as deliverability, open rates, and unsubscribe rates to optimize campaign effectiveness.

Conduct A/B testing and apply insights to improve email content, layout, and timing.

Ensure compliance with data protection and email marketing regulations to maintain trust and legal integrity.
Marketing Automation Journeys

Develop and optimize automated supporter journeys (e.g., welcome, thank-you, upgrade, reactivation) using Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

Coordinate with internal teams (IT, Data Intelligence, Web, CRM) and external partners to implement and validate automation workflows.

Support fundraising teams in creating trigger-based communications that drive conversion, retention, and reactivation.
Strategy and Innovation

Propose digital tactics based on data, benchmarks, and experience to help program managers achieve audience goals related to income, commitment, acquisition, and retention.

Identify and apply best practices and emerging trends in digital communication to enhance MSF’s outreach and engagement.
Data and Performance Management

Develop segmentation strategies and use data analysis to refine targeting and improve campaign results.

Maintain and improve subscriber list health by minimizing inactivity and reducing unsubscribe rates.
Coordination and Collaboration

Participate in annual planning for the Fundraising department, especially within Loyalty and Digital teams.

Collaborate across departments (Fundraising, Communications) to align email campaign calendars and messaging strategies.
Organizational Engagement

Attend internal and international meetings to share insights, stay informed on MSF priorities, and contribute to organizational development.

Promote intercultural sensitivity and uphold MSF principles in all communications and collaborations.
SELECTION CRITERIA

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in email marketing and marketing automation.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in lifecycle and behavioral email campaigns.

Hands-on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar marketing automation platforms.

Proficiency in HTML and image editing tools is mandatory.

Strong skills in audience segmentation, data analysis, campaign optimization, and digital fundraising strategies.

Fluent in Spanish and English (both written and spoken) is mandatory.

Previous experience with MSF or other humanitarian/non-profit organizations is an asset.
CONDITIONS
-
Position based in any MSF Spain office: Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, or Sevilla. Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (e.g., residency, work permit, etc.) and available office space.

Duration of position: Temporary position to cover maternity/parental leave.

Full-time position.

Annual gross salary: 37,346.55€ (HQ - 3A) + secondary benefits based on MSF OCBA Reward Policy. Subjected to local conditions.
