MENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (MANAGED BY ATHENS)

A Mental Health Responsible is in charge of a group of outreach workers and counsellors, providing care in the health facilities but also out in the community. He/She is in charge of conducting a community mental health assessment, planning a mental health strategy, managing mental health care for an entire hospital/project, providing care for victims of sexual violence, supporting groups of displaced people.

 

Tasks & Duties

  • Carry out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establish a diagnosis and a plan of treatment
  • Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities
  • Working closely with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behaviour during sessions
  • Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities

 

Essential requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry (with additional psychological therapy qualification)
  • Currently licensed to practice one of the above areas with independent licensed clinical practice
  • At least two years of relevant and substantial clinical work experience after graduation
  • Fluency in English
  • Advanced computer literacy
  • Availability to work 12 months

 

Desirable requirements

  • Experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sexual violence, Tuberculosis (TB) care
  • Professional experience supervising, managing or training staff
  • Knowledge of other languages, in particular French and/or Arabic
  • Previous international experience with INGOs, UN agencies, other humanitarian organisations, charities, etc.
  • Experience working in developing countries
