GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian action-driven organization, which offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. The MSF movement is built around six operational directorates supported by MSF’s 21 sections, 24 associations and other offices together worldwide.
Tembo is a personal and organizational digital learning & development ecosystem used across MSF. It provides a space for all MSF global workforce to learn, develop themselves, and share knowledge to improve the quality of our medical operations and social mission.
MAIN PURPOSE
The Tembo Data Analyst will contribute to provide and promote access to meaningful learner data and insights in support of MSF’s digital learning efforts, in order to enable the design, delivery, and improvement of effective, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences across the organization.
CONTEXT OF THE POST
The Data Analyst plays a key role in enabling data-informed decision-making by ensuring learning partners have continuous access to relevant, high-quality data and insights.
The Data Analyst is responsible for the collection, processing, and analysis of learning-related data to generate actionable insights on user behaviour, engagement, and performance. The Data Analyst is also in charge of designing and delivering data visualisations using business intelligence tools. The role also contributes to the implementation of a MEAL system to strengthen evidence-based evaluation and learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN TASKS
Data Collection and Management
- Develop and implement data collection strategies across digital platforms while managing requests for new datasets to support emerging analysis and reporting needs.
- Extract and validate data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
- Collaborate with technical teams to design and maintain data storage and databases.
- Builds and maintains a standardized semantic model to support current and future global reporting and analytics needs.
- Work with the Data Protection Office to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and ethical standards.
Data Analysis and Interpretation
- Contribute to conducting exploratory analysis to identify patterns and trends in learning data, collaborating with internal teams and stakeholders.
- Create visualizations and reports to communicate findings and recommendations through business intelligence tools.
- Advise on business intelligence tools and solutions evolution.
Impact Evaluation and Reporting
- Monitor and report on key data trends for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide high-quality reports and analysis toolkits to evaluate digital learning initiatives within budget and deadlines.
MEAL Framework Design and Implementation
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of MEAL frameworks, KPIs, baselines, and tracking tools, aligned with Tembo’s strategic goals.
- Ensure ethical standards, data protection, and compliance in all MEAL activities.
- Support integration of Tembo data with external MSF MEAL systems.
Capacity Building, Accountability, and Collaboration
- Train internal teams on data collection, tools, and MEAL best practices to promote a culture of data use and learning.
- Act as technical focal point to prepare and communicate MEAL strategies to stakeholders and manage feedback mechanisms for transparency and accountability.
- Collaborate with Tembo teams and partners to align MEAL activities with project objectives and operational priorities.
Innovation and Trend Monitoring
- Stay informed on emerging data analysis techniques, MEAL methodologies, etc to keep enhancing Tembo’s data practices.
- Proactively recommend and implement innovative solutions to improve data collection, analysis, reporting, and MEAL-related activities.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education and experience
- Degree in computer sciences, information systems, engineering or related fields or relevant training.
- Or equilvalent practical experience in relevant projects in data analysis or related fields.
- Strong data visualization skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Exposure to data collection methods and working with learning or operational datasets is an asset.
- Experience in defining and tracking KPIs or OKRs, and familiarity with MEAL frameworks is an asset.
- English is mandatory, French or Spanish fluency is an asset.
Technical tools
- Proficiency in SQL (or similar tools) for data extraction and manipulation, including Azure SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
- Proficiency with data visualization tools, preferably Microsoft Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and the creation of reports and dashboards.
- Experience with the backend environment Microsoft Azure (Azure Data Factory, Database Management), or similar tools.
- Knowledge of Jira, Monday, Clickup or similar — for workflow/task management.
- Knowledge of data warehouses, data lakes.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies is an asset.
- Experience in Python and/or APIs is an asset.
CONDITIONS
- Position based in any MSF-OCBA Hub: Amman, Bogotá, Dakar, Nairobi, Barcelona or Madrid. Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (e.g., residency, work permit, etc.)
- Duration of position: Permanent position.
- Full-time position.
- Annual gross salary: HQ-3B level + secondary benefits based on MSF OCBA Reward Policy. Subjected to local conditions.
